PSAC Champs Begin Preparations For Regionals

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Fresh off its first conference crown in 24 years, West Chester University’s baseball squad begins its preparations for the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament, which gets under way on Thursday, May 14 at Owls Field in West Lawn, Pa. The Golden Rams open the regionals with a 12 p.m. contest against Concord.

Joining West Chester (42-10) and Concord (27-13) at the 2009 NCAA Atlantic Regional are: second-seed and host institution, Kutztown (33-15), Shepherd (33-16), Mercyhurst (35-15) and West Virginia State (31-13), respectively in order of seeding. West Chester and Shepherd received automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament as champions from their respective conferences.

Seventh-ranked West Chester has accomplished goal No. 1 and is now on course for goal No. 2 as the top seed in the regional this weekend. The Golden Rams take on sixth-seeded Concord University out of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). The winner of the Atlantic Regional advances to the NCAA Division II College World Series, which will be held in Cary, N.C., May 23-30.

Tickets to the 2009 NCAA Atlantic Regional are $8 per day for an adult and $4 per day for students or senior citizens. There will be tournament passes available on the first day of the regional ONLY. An adult tournament pass will be $25 and a student/senior citizens tournament pass will be $15.

There will be handicapped parking inside the gates to the field. Spectators may park in any of the surrounding parking lots or on the streets surrounding the stadium. There are NO bleachers in the stadium. Fans are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets. There are terraces down each baseline for use for spectator seating.

West Chester is making its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, having reached the regional championship game in each of the past three seasons, winning the regional crown in 2006 and advancing to the school’s first College World Series in program history. Shippensburg defeated West Chester, 5-4, in last year’s regional final.
