WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The West Chester Golden Rams women’s volleyball team kicked off their 2009 season with a healthy victory over Bloomfield College on Tuesday night inside Hollinger Field House, defeating the Lady Deacons 3-0.
The Golden Rams took all three games by at least five points, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-12.
Opponents have come to expect a strong offense from the Golden Rams, but it was WCU’s defense that frustrated Bloomfield (0-1) on Tuesday night, keeping the ball off the floor for most of the evening.
Junior middle hitter Michelle Powers led all players with 13 kills on 22 attempts. Helen Fitzpatrick had 26 assists in her first match as a Golden Ram. Lisa Campbell led West Chester with 12 digs. Campbell also contributed four aces in the win.
Sam Ingersoll closed out the match with three aces.
West Chester next sees action this Friday night at 7 p.m. versus Philadelphia University at the Kutztown University Tournament.
