WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University captured four of the six singles competitions to come from behind and beat visiting Clarion, 5-4, in a PSAC crossover women’s tennis match Friday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.
The Golden Rams (3-0) remained unbeaten with its upset of the Golden Eagles (0-2). Clarion claimed two of the three doubles competitions to take a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
Freshman Brittany Counts dispatched Haylee Gardner, 6-2, 6-3 at second singles, and Ali Fetter topped Sharayah Campbell, 7-6 (2), 6-3 at third singles to compensate for Louisiana Souto’s hard-fought loss at No. 1 singles. The Eagles’ Jaclyn Metzgar nipped Souto in a classic, 0-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (9).
Clarion’s Devon Rumbach downed Stephanie Ritchey, 6-2, 6-0, at fourth singles. However, the Rams breezed to wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Claire Afrassiabian beat Megan Parsons, 6-0, 6-0, and Teresa Grasso defeated Michaela Hardy, 6-4, 6-2.
The women’s team will take on Indiana (Pa,) Saturday at 2 p.m.
