Men's Soccer Ties ESU, 0-0, In Double OT

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Defense was the name of the game on Saturday afternoon as the West Chester men’s soccer team played conference rival East Stroudsburg to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at South Campus Field under bright and sunny conditions.

West Chester (0-3-2, 0-2-2 PSAC East) played even with the ninth-ranked team in the Atlantic Region for 110 minutes to squeeze out one point in the match. East Stroudsburg (4-3-1, 1-1-1) leaves town with a disappointing performance in an important PSAC East matchup.

The Rams pushed the Warriors to the max in the double-overtime match, challenging ESU goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa on several occasions. Pokrywa was up to the task, however, stoning three Golden Rams’ shots from inside the East Stroudsburg six-yard box late in regulation.

West Chester freshman goalkeeper, Garrett Bleiler, was equally impressive in his first start of the season, turning away six Warriors’ shots and keeping ECU’s powerful offense off the board.

Although they failed to score, the West Chester offense showed signs of life on Saturday, outshooting the Warriors 20-17. Unfortunately, the Golden Rams failed to capitalize on several outstanding crossing plays.

Senior forward Bryan Nugent had a strong game for the Golden Rams, taking several deep runs into the East Stroudsburg penalty area.
