Women’s Soccer Steps Past Clarion, 11-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Junior forward Sarah Oswald scored one goal and assisted on four others as host West Chester University captured an 11-0 shutout over visiting Clarion University in a PSAC West women’s soccer crossover match at South Campus Soccer Field on an overcast and cool Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (7-1-1), ranked 16th in the country, scored four goals in the first half and seven more in the second half en route to the victory over Clarion (3-7).

Oswald opened the scoring five minutes in to the contest, converting on a breakaway against Golden Eagles goalkeeper Jenna Kulik. Heather Manorek, who finished with two goals and one assist, tallied in the 17th minute to double the lead. Almost two minutes later Jen Gangl made it 3-0 before Jen Hutchinson finished off a tap-in just before halftime.

Oswald then sparked the second-half surge by assisting on three of the first four goals in the frame. The reigning PSAC East player of the week posted six points on the day to lead all scorers.

Ashley Kershaw and Olivia O’Neill each scored twice in the second half while Manorek picked up her second of the day. Laura Flanagan and Samantha Paolino also tallied for the Golden Rams after halftime.

Freshman goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini picked up her seventh win of the year, combining with Lauren Panfile on the shut out. Bernardini played the first 70 minutes and made two saves, before Panfile finished up with one save in the last 20 minutes.

West Chester outshot Clarion by a hefty 30-3 margin. The Golden Rams did not allow their opponent a corner kick for the second straight contest.

Emily Henderson collected two assists, and Diana Rowan posted one.

Kulik made 12 saves for the Eagles.
