Second Half Comeback Lifts Bloomsburg Men Over West Chester, 2-1

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Bloomsburg scored twice in the game’s final 20 minutes to erase a halftime deficit and post a come-from-behind victory over host West Chester in a PSAC Eastern Division men’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

West Chester (2-4-2, 0-3-2 PSAC East) snapped its two-game winning streak while Bloomsburg (5-2-2, 3-1-1) improved its place in the league standings.

J.J. DiFerdinando booted in a loose ball during a goal-line scramble one minute before the half to put the Golden Rams on top in the contest.

However, Bloomsburg’s Bryce Shaffer finished off a free kick from Eric Simonds in the 78th minute to knot the game at 1-1. Simonds sent the ball into the penalty area around the 10-yard line, and both Shaffer and West Chester’s goalkeeper, Peter Weiss, went up for the ball. Shaffer was able to deflect it past Weiss and into the empty net.

Tyler Phillips scored the game-winner with four minutes remaining on a drive from outside the area that beat a diving Weiss to the far post.

David Leiendecker made eight saves for the Huskies in the win. Weiss was credited with five for the Golden Rams.

West Chester is back home on Saturday against California (Pa.) at South Campus Field at 1 p.m.
