No. 25 West Chester Drops 63-51 Decision At Cal

Box Score

CALIFORNIA, Pa.
– The Vulcans’ Travis Williams led three players in double figures with 16 points, and Andrew Young posted 14, as California (Pa.) notched a 63-51 victory over visiting West Chester in a PSAC crossover men’s basketball contest inside Hamer Hall Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (9-1) saw its nine-game winning streak to open the season come to a close while Cal (9-3) put a halt to its two-game skid with the win. It marked the longest winning streak under second-year head coach Damien Blair.

The Golden Rams, who have hung on to the 25th spot in each of the last two NABC Division II coaches’ poll rankings, are off to the best start in the modern era of men’s basketball at the institution.

Senior co-captain Kenneth St. George scored nine points in his first appearance of the season, after recovering from a concussion suffered in a preseason contest at Rider. Teammate Kehinde Roberts poured in a game-high 18 points for West Chester. Ralph Hegamin posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Roberts’ fast-break dunk at the 12:49 mark of the first half gave West Chester its largest lead of the game (14-7). However, the Rams could not keep up the momentum with which they started the game, and Cal chipped away at the lead.

Kevon Davis grabbed six rebounds in his first action of the season as well.

The Golden Rams trailed 29-19 at halftime.

West Chester travels to No. 4 Indiana (Pa.) on Sunday for a 3 p.m. tilt to close out the first weekend of PSAC crossover competition. IUP topped Millersville, 68-54, Saturday to remain unbeaten (9-0) on the year.
