West Chester Men Hand Mansfield First League Loss, 89-75

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Kenneth St. George scored 20 points to lead five different players in double figures as West Chester delivered an 89-75 victory over visiting Mansfield in a PSAC East men’s basketball contest Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.

West Chester (13-4, 2-2 PSAC East) opened the game on fire, enabling the hosts to jump out to a 21-point lead at the half over Mansfield (12-5, 3-1), who fell in league play for the first time this year.

The Golden Rams hit on 18 of their 36 shots (.500) in the opening half and continued that pace throughout, making 12 of 24 in the second half to frustrate the Mountaineers all afternoon. Ryan Callahan led all scorers with 28 points for Mansfield, but it was not enough to overcome West Chester’s red-hot day from the field.

The Golden Rams outrebounded the Mountaineers by a hefty 46-25 margin. Harley Williamson grabbed a game-high nine boards.

Mansfield eventually closed to within six (71-65) in the final five minutes. However, a 3-pointer from Kehinde Roberts (16 points) pushed the lead back to nine.

Williamson finished with 15 points, and Elie Daniel had 13 off the bench. Ralph Hegamin returned from a leg injury to post 12 points and eight rebounds.

Mansfield put four players in double figures. Justin Simmons scored 14 off the bench for the Mountaineers while Yuseff Carr poured in 12 and Chris Pender 10. Pender added five assists.

West Chester travels to Kutztown next Wednesday evening for an 8 p.m. clash with the Golden Bears. All the action can be heard on 91.7 WCUR-FM, or on the internet at Red Zone Media (www.redzonemedia.com).
