No. 4 IUP’s Second Half Shooting Leads To 81-72 Win Over No. 25 West Chester

INDIANA, Pa.
– IUP junior forward Darryl Webb scored 22 points with 10 rebounds, and the fourth-ranked Crimson Hawks shot 51 percent in the second half to erase a halftime deficit en route to an 81-72 victory over 25th-ranked West Chester Sunday afternoon in a PSAC crossover men’s basketball tilt inside Memorial Fieldhouse.

West Chester (9-2) suffered its second straight loss following a season-opening nine-game win streak. IUP (10-0) remained unbeaten in the 2009-10 campaign. Webb went over 1,000 career points for IUP in the win.

The Hawks outscored the Rams 53-39 in the final 20 minutes of the contest on the strength of some very hot shooting down. IUP nailed five 3-point shots early in the second half to take a 50-44 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the game. West Chester had jumped out to a 33-28 advantage at the break.

Ralph Hegamin scored 18 points for the Golden Rams, including 13 in the first half to help stake West Chester to that halftime lead. However, Webb posted 20 of his 22 points after halftime, heating up from downtown in the process.

Indiana (Pa.) nailed five 3-pointers during a 26-11 run early in the second half. In that 8:20 span, IUP turned a seven-point deficit (37-30) into a 56-48 advantage. Julian Sanders scored all nine of his points with three of the five IUP 3-balls in that spurt. Webb ignited the comeback with a 3-pointer that put him over 1,000 career points.

Kenneth St. George led West Chester with 22 points in just his second game back from a preseason injury. Elie Daniel had 10 points for the Rams as well.

IUP was 24-for-32 from the foul line in the contest, including making 11 of 13 in the final two minutes o the ballgame as West Chester tried to climb back from seven points down. The Rams came as close as five points with 52 seconds remaining, but IUP’s foul shooting did not allow the visitors to get any closer.

West Chester is off until it hosts Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House.
