Women’s Field Hockey Falls Short At Saint Joseph’s, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
  – West Chester University’s field hockey fell to St. Joseph’s University, 3-1,  in an Atlantic 10 conference tilt on a windy Friday afternoon. 

West Chester falls to 5-8 overall on the year and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10. St. Joseph’s improves to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Kayla Gluchowski tipped in a shot from Nicole Fiorilla in the 11th minute, giving West Chester the first goal of the match. Unfortunately, the Hawks responded with three unanswered tallies to claim the come-from-behind victory. 

Nicole McCreight was the first to answer nine minutes later with a goal off a penalty corner. St. Joseph’s scored once more in the half to give them a 2-1 lead. West Chester’s goalkeeper Gabby Panasiewicz was made three saves in the first 35 minutes. She was relieved in the second half by Kristen Arnold.

St. Joe’s Ellen Rowe scored the Hawks final goal of the match off a rebound in the 58th minute, making it a 3-1 advantage for the hosts.  Arnold made five saves and gave up one goal for West Chester in the cage in the second half. The Hawks’ Kelly Swanick made seven saves in the win.  

West Chester will be back in action at Temple University on Sunday at noon for another A-10 showdown with the Owls.
