CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Josh Labik and Kyle Miller each tallied for West Chester University, but it was not enough to overcome homestanding California (Pa.) in a 3-2 decision for the Vulcans Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (5-8, 0-6 PSAC) is still in search of its first league win after falling to Cal (8-4-2, 2-4-2). It marked the seventh time this year that the Golden Rams have lost by a single goal. They have yet to win a one-goal game this fall.
Cal’s Mike Kalas deflected a shot off a free kick past West Chester’s goalkeeper Peter Weiss in the 85th minute for the game-winning goal almost two minutes after the Golden Rams had tied the game. Kalas also scored the Vulcans’ first goal of the game in the fourth minute when he headed in a corner kick to put Cal up, 1-0.
Miller’s fifth goal of the season in the 83rd minute had knotted things up at 2-2. Freshman striker Conor Malarney picked up the assist on Miller’s game-tying marker.
Labik had tied the game in the first half in the 35th minute when he deflected in a shot off a corner kick. Malarney and Taylor Eisenhauer each registered an assist on that tally.
West Chester will be back home on Tuesday, Oct. 19 when they take on Chestnut Hill at 6 p.m. inside John A. Farrell Stadium on Senior Night. The Golden Rams will honor their three seniors before their final home game of the 2010 campaign.
