Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Kevin McCann and Ricky Williamson each scored a goal as West Chester University put an end to its six-game losing streak with a 2-0 shutout over visiting University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in a non-league men's soccer match on a windy and blustery Sunday afternoon inside John A. Farrell Stadium.
West Chester (3-6-0) got a goal in each half and rode a tremendous defensive effort the rest of the way en route to the win over UDC (3-7-1).
McCann placed a long ball from just outside the penalty area along the far sideline into the top far right corner of the net to put West Chester on top in the 38th minute. It was his second of the season and came unassisted.
Williamson then doubled the lead in the 56th minute when he chested down a nice cross-field pass from Kyle Miller and walked in on the Firebirds' goalkeeper. He placed his shot right in far corner of the goal.
Peter Weiss made three saves to record the shutout. UDC's Kyle Heatherington made seven saves in the loss for the Firebirds. West Chester outshot UDC, 13-5, limiting any good looks from out in front.
West Chester will be back in action on Wednesday when Holy Family visits for a non-league match.
