WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Leah Angstadt's penalty stroke in the 21st minute stood up as the only goal of the game, leading host West Chester to a 1-0 shutout over visiting Penn in a non-league field hockey match at Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (4-6) ended its six-game losing streak with the shutout while Penn (1-8) lost its fifth match out of its last six.
Leah Angstadt converted a penalty stroke by beating Penn goalkeeper Danielle Rothman high to the left side, placing the ball in the top upper corner. Rothman guessed correctly, but the shot was perfectly placed over the outstretched keeper.
Kristen Arnold made three saves during the shutout. Penn was awarded eight penalty corners, but were only able to muster four shots in the tilt. West Chester limited Penn to one shot in the second half.
West Chester opens Atlantic 10 play on Friday at 3 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field.
