SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Michelle Powers and Kelly Martin each notched 12 to lead West Chester University to a 3-2 victory over host Slippery Rock in the second of two PSAC crossover volleyball matches Friday. West Chester fell, 3-0 to California (Pa.) in the first match of the morning.
West Chester (14-5, 4-5 PSAC) has won 7 of its last 9 since hosting the first round of crossover matches last month. Cal (12-7, 8-1) remains on top of the Western Division standings while Slippery Rock falls to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The Golden Rams rallied from a set down to take the fourth and fifth sets and come away with the win on The Rock’s home court. West Chester opened with a 25-23 win in the opening set, but fell 26-24 and 25-20 in the next two sets to sit on the brink of another loss to a West team. That is when WCU pulled out a 25-23 victory in the fourth set to tie things up at two apiece. The Rams then captured the abbreviated fifth and deciding set, 15-12.
Helen Fitzpatrick registered 38 assists while Lisa Campbell netted 31 digs. Dana Markol had 29 digs and Tyler Scheafer 15. Julie Boblits recorded 11 kills in the win.
Lexi Kegerise led West Chester University with six kills while Nora Jingeleski added 19 assists as the Golden Rams fell to California (Pa.), 3-0, in the first match of the day at Slippery Rock University.
West Chester lost 25-5, 25-20 and 25-23. The Golden Rams improved in each set throughout the three game series. Powers recorded five kills, and Campbell posted 14 digs.
West Chester travels to Philadelphia, Pa. on Tuesday night in an out-of-conference matchup against the University of Sciences.
