WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sarah Oswald scored a goal and assisted on another to lead No. 13 West Chester to a 4-0 win over visiting Clarion in a PSAC women's soccer match at South Campus Field on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (10-1-0, 8-1-0 PSAC) kept pace with league-leader California (Pa.) en route to its second win in as many days. The Golden Rams exploded for three goals after halftime to put away Clarion (4-3-3, 4-2-2).
Lyndsie Bernardini registered the shutout in goal for the Golden Rams, making two saves. Jenna Kulik recorded seven stops in the loss for the Golden Eagles.
Jen Gangl, Oswald and Jessica Bennett each tallied in the second half, to add to a Melissa McKeary goal in the first half for all the Rams' scoring.
McKeary knocked in a header from Tara Malkiewicz off a corner kick in the 16th minute to open up the scoring. McKeary was standing on the far post when Oswald's corner found Malkiewicz out by the penalty dot. Malkiewicz directed the ball over to a waiting McKeary, who finished off the easy tap-in for her third goal of the year.
Gangl then hammered home a nice through ball feed from Jenna Arnold in the 58th minute to double the hosts' lead and give them some breathing room. It was her fifth marker of the year. Oswalds' team-leading eighth of the season came in the 77th minute, and Bennett converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to close out the scoring.
West Chester hosts Shippensburg on Tuesday at South Campus Field at 3:30 p.m.
