Golden Rams Men Fall At USP, 45-42

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
– Shannon Givens scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but University of the Sciences defeated visiting West Chester, 45-42, Tuesday evening inside Morgan Arena.

The loss drops West Chester to 1-1 overall on the season while USP improves to 1-1.

Lance McDowell, the reigning PSAC East athlete of the week, grabbed 11 rebounds and Eli Daniel hauled down 10 caroms to lead the Golden Rams. However, West Chester was plagued all night by poor shooting from the field. The Rams hit on just 16 of 60 attempts (26.7 percent).

Ironically, USP put up the exact same numbers from the field to account for the low-scoring game all around. It was the lowest point total in Damien Blair’s tenure as head coach and the lowest since West Chester mustered just 37 points against Millersville in the 2007-08 season finale.

The Golden Rams shot 4-for-30 from 3-point range in the loss while USP misfired on all nine of its attempts from beyond the arc.

The difference in the game came from the free throw line. West Chester got to the line just 12 times all night and converted only half of those attempts. Meanwhile, USP went a dismal 13-for-28. However, it was enough to scratch out a 3-point victory for the Devils at home.

McDowell added three blocked shots and four steals to his six points and 11 rebounds on the evening.

West Chester returns home to Hollinger Field House on Thursday for a non-league tip-off with Penn State-Abington at 7 p.m.
