WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Lance McDowell scored a season-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead host West Chester to a 76-59 victory over visiting Goldey-Beacom in a men’s basketball non-league tilt inside Hollinger Field House Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (4-1) shot 52.8 percent from the field, including 60 percent in the second half to keep Goldey-Beacom (1-4) at bay. The Lightning were held to just 41.7 percent from the floor and were outrebounded, 35-23.
McDowell led four different Golden Rams in double figures in the scoring column. Fellow starter Shannon Givens notched 12 points and dished out five assists, before fouling out. Khalif Foster scored 13 points off the bench and Miguel Bocachia added 11 in a reserve role. He also handed out four assists on the afternoon. McDowell blocked three shots as well.
McDowell was 7-for-9 from the field, which included two dunks, while also going 9 of 10 at the free throw line. Bocachia went 4-for-6 from the floor, including three of West Chester’s four 3-pointers in the game.
Goldey-Beacom, who never led in the game, was within two (21-19) with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Golden Rams closed out the frame on a 12-4 run that pushed the margin to 10 at the break.
The Lightning crawled back to within four (41-37), but West Chester went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to open up a 14-point advantage. McDowell contributed half of the points in that run, accenting the spurt with the first of his two dunks on the day.
West Chester returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 4 when the Golden Rams host Holy Family in another non-league tilt at Hollinger Field House. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. following the women’s game.
