WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Harley Williamson scored a career-high 21 points and dished out five assists to lead host West Chester to an 80-60 victory over visiting Holy Family Saturday afternoon at Hollinger Field House.
West Chester (5-1) pulled away late from a determined Holy Family (2-5) squad, who was led by guard Tim Smith’s game-high 23 points.
The Golden Rams shot 50 percent from the field as a team (30-for-60) while holding the Tigers to just 38.8 percent from the floor (19-for-49). West Chester outscored Holy Family, 44-28, in the second half on the strength of a 64.3 percent shooting effort from the field.
West Chester went on a 35-17 run in the last 14 minutes of the second half to build its lead, which eventually grew to 20 by the final horn. Holy Family, which never led in the final 28 minutes of the game, had drawn to within a bucket (45-43) with 14:37 to go.
That’s when Khalif Foster converted a trio of layups and Miguel Bocachia knocked down a pair of three’s to give the hosts a 63-50 advantage with just over seven minutes to play.
Williamson drained a 3-ball and converted a 3-point play to push the advantage to 19 points four minutes later. By then, Holy Family was out of answers to West Chester’s hot shooting from the outside.
Foster added 12 points while Eli Daniel led the Golden Rams' starting five with 11 points. West Chester's bench scored 44 points to augment the starters' 36 in the game. Foster and Williamson combined for 33 of those 44 tallies.
West Chester hosts Chestnut Hill on Thursday evening at Hollinger Field House. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
