CHEYNEY, Pa. - West Chester withstood a frantic rally late by host Cheyney, but held on for the victory, 70-67, in a pivotal PSAC East women's basketball showdown inside Cope Hall.
West Chester (16-7, 6-4 PSAC East) sweeps the season series with Cheyney (8-14, 5-5) while breaking the tie between the two schools in the conference standings. Entering the evening tied with both Shippensburg and Cheyney for fourth place, the Golden Rams moved ahead of both, following the Raiders' loss at Millersville Monday, and into a tie for third with idle Bloomsburg.
Allison Hostetter (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Renata Neal (12 points, 11 rebounds) each posted double-doubles, and Megan Stewart led the Golden Rams with 14 points. Hostetter came three assists shy of a triple double in the win.
Mary Kate Serratelli scored 10 points off the bench for the Golden Rams.
West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. tilt with Kutztown, who is 7-3 in the conference and one game ahead of the Golden Rams in second place in the league standings.
