Directions and Meet Schedule
EDINBORO, Pa. - From February 27-28 Edinboro University plays host to the 2010 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Female athletes from 14 different schools will compete for the team crown as well as individual titles. West Chester University’s contingent will consist of 16 athletes participating over the weekend.
General admission for Saturday is $7 for adults and $2 for students. Students with a PSAC school I.D. are admitted free of charge. Fans interested in attending the championships on Saturday and Sunday can purchase a two-day pass for $12.
Action begins Saturday with women’s pentathlon at 1:30 p.m. Melinda Wentz will be representing the Golden Rams in the pentathlon, 60m hurdles, high jump, and 4x4m relay. The women’s distance medley relay (DMR), which is set to go off at 2:30 p.m., looks to place in the top three. The DMR consists of Mary Gawbill, Leigh Gumlock-Siilfies, Lindsay Nyrgen, and Lyndsey Ratasiewicz. The women’s 5000m run will start at 5 p.m. Jess Joseph will look for a top five finish in that event.
Championship Sunday begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s shot put, and high jump. Sam Smarkola looks to continue her success in the finals of the 400m, 60m, 200m, and will anchor the 4x400m relay. The women’s 3000m run goes off at 2:10 p.m. as Joseph looks to keep pace with the top-runners.
Slippery Rock University looks to repeat as indoor champions. The Rock captured the women’s team title with a team score of 146 points while Shippensburg fell four points shy of first place with 142.
