WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Kyle Orensky knocked in five runs and nine different West Chester pitchers held University of the Sciences (Phila.) to four runs on eight hits in a 13-4 non-league baseball victory at a sun-splashed Serpico Stadium Wednesday.
West Chester (12-3) got a leadoff home run from Kevin McGrath, his second of the season, to jump out front early on the winless USP Devils (0-9). The Golden Rams would go on to score four runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
McGrath finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Nick Spisak scored four runs and stole four bases in the contest. He finished 0-for-1 officially at the plate, walking three times and getting hit by a pitch. West Chester hit six sacrifice flies in the game as well. Orensky had three and Wendle two. Wendle finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Starter Eric Carmichael (3-1) got the win on the mound in the pre-determined pitching order for the game. He threw the first inning and struck out a batter. USP's Greg Nealis (0-3) suffered the loss. He lasted two innings, yielding four runs on four hits and walking a batter.
Designated hitter Nick Bonadies went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
West Chester opens PSAC East play on Friday with a doubleheader at Bloomsburg beginning at 1 p.m. The Golden Rams and Huskies will play another doubleheader at Serpico Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.
