MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Kevin McGrath was a combined 5-for-8 with four RBI, but West Chester’s pitching performances stole the show as the 10th-ranked Golden Rams swept a PSAC East baseball doubleheader from Millersville on a windy Tuesday afternoon by scores of 10-1 and 6-2.
West Chester (18-3, 6-0 PSAC East) is off to another splendid start to league play after its third straight doubleheader sweep of a league opponent in Millersville (6-12, 1-5).
Senior lefty Eric Carmichael (5-1) tossed six innings of two-hit ball, allowing just a bunt single before Carlos Medina homered in the sixth. He walked one batter and struck out five while facing just three batters over the minimum. Joe Opalka finished up the seventh, striking out one.
McGrath went 3-for-5 in the opener with three RBI, including a two-run homer in the seventh to put the finishing touches on the win.
In the nightcap, freshman righty Fred Breidenbach (5-0) remained perfect on the year with five masterful innings. He allowed two runs on five hits and stuck out nine without walking a batter. Carmen Daddario finished up the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
McGrath went 2-for-3 with another RBI. Joe Wendle was 2-for-4 and Josh Heyne 2-for-3.
West Chester hosts Lincoln University in one game on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Serpico Stadium.
