Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Dave Stieg pitched a complete game in the nightcap and Kyle Orensky hit a towering three-run homer to help West Chester University complete a PSAC East doubleheader sweep over visiting East Stroudsburg University on a sunny but cool Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium. The Golden Rams claimed game one, 5-2, before hitting their way to a 9-5 victory in game two.

West Chester (21-3, 8-0 PSAC East) opened up a commanding lead over the rest of the competition in the Eastern Division with its fourth straight league sweep of a doubleheader. East Stroudsburg (9-9, 0-4) dropped its fourth straight and five of its last six.

Orensky smashed an offering from Mike Glassic down the left field line after Nick Spisak walked and Joe Wendle was hit by a pitch. Spisak broke former teammate Matt Cotellese’s PSAC record for runs scored when he crossed the plate on Orensky’s blast. Spisak has now scored 203 runs in his career.

Orensky’s three-run homer, his sixth of the season was part of a six-run fourth inning that broke open a close 3-2 game for the Golden Rams. Christian Cox hit a sacrifice fly, and Josh Heyne hit a two-run single later in the frame to put West Chester in control, 9-2.

East Stroudsburg had just scored two runs in the top half of the fourth to crawl back into the contest when the Rams took the wind out of their sails. The Warriors mustered three more runs in the top of the seventh off Stieg (2-1), but it was too little, too late. Stieg allowed five earned runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four.

Heyne finished the second game 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Jason Kelmer (0-1) suffered the loss on the hill in the nightcap. He lasted just two innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He walked four and struck out three. Mike Glassic pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, giving up six earned runs on three hits, including Orensky’s blast. He walked three and struck out one. Kyle Evans finished up with 2.2 scoreless innings of work. He struck out two, walked one and allowed one hit.

In the opener, Matt Baer hit his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning to put West Chester on top, 2-1. Cox hit a two-run double during a three-run sixth that put the hosts on top, 5-1, late. West Chester’s first three batters of the sixth reached safely before Cox hit his devastating double.

Carmen Daddario (4-0) picked up the win after blowing a save opportunity by allowing the tying run in the top of the sixth. He threw two innings in relief of starter Jordan Lehman and allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out three. Lehman threw the first five innings, yielding just one run on three hits, walking four and striking out three as well.

Cox finished game one with three RBI. Baer was 2-for-3 with his solo shot.

Ryan Beck (2-2) suffered the loss for the Warriors. He started and lasted five innings, surrendering four earned runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Colin Kelly finished up allowing one hit and striking out one.

These two teams will be back at Serpico Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. for another PSAC doubleheader. East Stroudsburg, who agreed to move its two home games of the series to West Chester because its field was unplayable, will be the home team on the scoreboard and bat second.
