No. 5 West Chester Splits Twinbill With No. 17 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– Fifth-ranked West Chester University split a PSAC East doubleheader with 17th-ranked Kutztown on a sunny Saturday afternoon, winning game one by a score of 4-0, before falling in the second game, 8-2.

West Chester (28-7, 14-4 PSAC East) received a complete-game shutout from right-hander Jordan Lehman (4-0) in the opener. Tyler Persun (3-0) kept the Golden Rams at bay in the nightcap for Kutztown (25-7, 9-5).

West Chester scored four runs in the top of the seventh of game one to take the opener. Nick Spisak singled up the middle to plate the first run while Joe Wendle followed with a two-run triple and Kyle Orensky a RBI single to make a winner out of Lehman.

Lehman scattered six hits over seven innings, walking three and striking out six.

Kutztown scored four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to erase a 2-0 deficit in the second game. Shayne Houck hit a three-run homer, his 13th of the season, in the fifth.

Dave Stieg (3-2) suffered the loss on the hill for West Chester. He went the distance, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out two.

West Chester and Kutztown will finish up their four-game weekend series on Sunday at home at Serpico Stadium. First pitch of game one is 1 p.m.
