West Chester Downs Wilmington, 15-4

WILMINGTON, Del.
– Kevin McGrath went 3-for-5, and Nick Spisak and Brandon Wolfe each recorded three RBI to lead 14th-ranked West Chester to a 15-4 non-league baseball victory over host Wilmington University at Wilson Field Thursday afternoon.

West Chester (30-9) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to blow open a 7-4 contest at the time. Wilmington (21-10) will have another shot at the Golden Rams on Saturday at Serpico Stadium in the first game of the Bill Giles Classic. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

The first seven batters of the seventh inning reached safely with four extra base hits mixed into the fold. Spisak hit a three-run triple in the fateful frame for West Chester. Charlie Kelly and Bob Stumpo led off the inning with back-to-back doubles.

West Chester’s first three hitters in the order combined to go 7-for-15 with five RBI.

John Hopkins started and pitched four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Joe Opalka (2-2) evened his record on the season by throwing four innings in relief and yielding one run on two hits.

Every starter in West Chester’s lineup registered a hit as the Golden Rams banged out 18 hits on the afternoon.
