WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Mercyhurst College swept the doubles matches and took four of the six singles to come away with a 7-2 victory over host West Chester in a PSAC crossover match Friday.
West Chester (12-5) won matches at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles. But, Mercyhurst (16-7) carried over the momentum gained from sweeping the doubles into singles play.
Luisi Souto captured a 6-1, 6-3 decision at second singles while Claire Afrassiabian was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at fourth singles. Mercyhurst took the other four singles competitions in straight sets.
West Chester hosts Cheyney Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East dual match. The Golden Rams are 3-1 in conference play with two more league matches left. The Golden Rams are in the hunt for their first postseason appearance since the PSAC went to dual-match tournament play in 2004. The top three teams in each division qualify for the postseason.
