No. 16 West Chester Seeded Second In Atlantic Regional

Golden Rams Face Mansfield Thursday

2010 Atlantic Regional Tournament Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - West Chester’s baseball squad begins defense of its Atlantic Region title on Thursday, May 13 as the 2010 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament gets under way.

No. 16 West Chester (36-12) will play PSAC rival Mansfield (32-18) in its first round matchup. The Golden Rams are the second seed in the Atlantic Region while Mansfield is the fifth seed. PSAC rival No. 12 Kutztown (37-12) is the top seed and will serve as host. The Golden Bears will face sixth-seed California (Pa.) in a rematch of the PSAC championship game.

All games will be played at Owls Field at Ted Palka Park in West Lawn, Pa. West Chester will play Mansfield at 11 a.m. in the first game of the tournament.

The rest of the Atlantic Region consists of third-seeded Seton Hill taking on fourth-seeded West Virginia State. The Atlantic Regional is a double-elimination tournament with the winner earning a trip to the NCAA Division II national semifinals at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., May 22-29.

West Chester defeated Mercyhurst in last year’s Atlantic Region championship game. The Golden Rams, who are making their 10th appearance in the NCAAs all-time, have reached the finals of the regional tournament in each of the past four years, winning the regional and gaining a berth to the College World Series in 2006 and 2009.

West Chester is 3-1 against Mansfield this season taking three of four from the Mountaineers in their regular-season series.
