SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Akeem Satterfield scored his third touchdown of the game on Slippery Rock’s first possession of overtime, and Mike Mattei’s 4th-down pass attempt fell incomplete as host The Rock remained unbeaten with a thrilling 33-27 overtime victory over visiting West Chester in a PSAC crossover game at Thompson Stadium Saturday night under the lights.

West Chester (0-3) is still in search of its first win of the 2010 season while Slippery Rock (3-0) increased its season-opening win streak to three games in the process.

The Rock place-kicker, C.J. Bahr, son of former NFL kicker Chris Bahr and nephew to fellow NFLer Matt Bahr, kicked a 47-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Sophomore QB Mike Mattei went 13 of 24 for 222 yards and a 27-yard touchdown toss to Dan DePalma to lead the Golden Rams’ offensive effort. Slippery Rock tailback Satterfield rushed for 192 yards on 26 carries to go along with his three TD runs.

West Chester senior RB D’Andre Webb got West Chester on the board first with a 4-yard run in the first quarter. Slippery Rock answered with a field goal, before WR Dan DePalma and Mattei hooked up in the second quarter to give the Golden Rams a 14-3 advantage. The Rock scored a TD with 49 seconds left in the half to draw to within 14-10 at the break.

Leo’s first career field goal put West Chester on top 17-10 in the third quarter. However, Slippery Rock scored a TD on an 11-yard run by Satterfield later in the stanza to tie the game at 17-apiece. Brian McDermott plunged over the goal line from 1-yard out early in the fourth quarter, giving the Golden Rams a 24-17 advantage.

Slippery Rock countered with Satterfield’s second touchdown with 8:30 left to knot the score once again. That is when West Chester went on an 10-play, 60-yard drive that culminated in Leo’s second field goal of the evening that put the Rams on top, 27-24 with 2:37 to play.

Slippery Rock then moved the ball to West Chester’s 40-yard line in the final two minutes where Bahr came on and split the uprights from 47 yards out.

Satterfield busted off an 8-yard run and a 17-yard TD jaunt on The Rock’s first overtime possession to put the hosts up 33-27. Bahr’s extra-point attempt was blocked.

West Chester then took its possession in the OT and moved the ball to Slippery Rock’s 13-yard line where the Rams’ drive stalled. Mattei’s 4th-down pass to freshman LaRonn Lee was incomplete.

West Chester continues its road swing next Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
