WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Visiting East Stroudsburg scored a first half goal and benefitted from a lucky bounce in the second half to double its lead en route to a 2-0 victory in a PSAC men's soccer match over host West Chester University on a sunny, hot and humid Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.
West Chester (2-4-0, 0-3-0 PSAC) was shut out for the fourth straight game while East Stroudsburg (6-1-0, 2-1-0 PSAC) rebounded from its loss to nationally ranked Slippery Rock over the weekend.
Shastri Spencer bent in a ball from about 22 yards out in the 37th minute to put the Warriors on top in the first half. His shot from the just left of the top of the penalty area was beautifully placed in the upper right-hand corner of the goal past an outstretched Golden Rams goalkeeper, Peter Weiss.
In the 53rd minute, a cross in front of West Chester's goal was headed into the Rams net by one of their defenders, which gave East Stroudsburg a 2-0 cushion. That is all the powerful Warriors would need the rest of the way.
The Golden Rams mustered nine shots in the contest. Warriors keeper Troy Hernandez made four saves. Peter Weiss made four stops for West Chester in 78 minutes of action. Garrett Bleiler came on and registered a save in the remaining 12 minutes.
