Rutgers Downs West Chester With Late Goal, 2-1

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Brynn Adams scored an opening second half goal, but visiting Rutgers scored two unanswered tallies with the game-winner coming with under a minute to play to defeat host West Chester University, 2-1, on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (3-6) played a strong game against Rutgers (3-7) on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Golden Rams received a goal after Brynn Adams controlled a pass from Kate Zunski during the 36th minute of play and stuffed it past Rutgers goalkeeper Vickie Lavell on the doorstep. Fiorilla registered her second assist of the season on Adams’ first goal of the year.

Rutgers received both its goals from Nicole Gentile, the first in the 41st minute just five minutes after West Chester had gone on top. The second goal came with 26 seconds remaining in the game. Gentile gathered a crossing pass from Carlie Rouh and stroked the ball into the back of the cage, giving Rutgers the 2-1 victory. Rouh blocked down a clearing attempt by the Rams defense at the 25-yard line and started the 2-on-1 break the other way.

Rouh accounted for both assists for the Scarlet Knights. Gentile now leads Rutgers with five goals on the year.

Kristen Arnold played all 70 minutes in the cage and recorded five saves for West Chester. Vickie Lavell also went the distance in the cage for Rutgers, giving up only one goal.

West Chester hosts Penn on Friday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. at Vonnie Gros field.
