Gannon Shooting Performance Does In West Chester, 96-86

ERIE, Pa. – Shannon Givens scored a career-high 27 points for visiting West Chester University, but host Gannon University put on a shooting clinic in 96-86 PSAC crossover men’s basketball tilt inside the Hammermill Center Tuesday evening.

West Chester (7-3) dropped its second straight game in as many nights while Gannon (8-2) improved its winning streak to four games.

Trailing by 11 at halftime (45-34), West Chester climbed back into the contest in the early moments of the second frame, eventually trimming its deficit to four (47-43). That is as close as the visitors would get.

Gannon’s Kelvin Agee poured in a game-high 33 points on the strength of five 3-pointers to pace the hosts’ hot outside shooting performance. Teammate Kareem Brown finished with 17 points and five 3-pointers of his own to complement Agee’s night.

Gannon shot 44 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, dropping in 11 trey’s in all. It was that performance from downtown that enabled the Golden Knights to pull away from the Golden Rams in the second half with a 22-5 run that pushed Gannon’s lead to 21 with 10:38 to go.

The Knights shot 54 percent (27-for-50) overall for the game and knocked down 72.1 percent of its free throws (31 of 43).

The Golden Rams never gave up, picking away at the large deficit, to get it back under double digits with two minutes to go. West Chester would trail by as little as eight with 12 ticks remaining. But, that was as close as the visitor’s could get in their comeback bid.

West Chester outscored Gannon, 52-51, in the second half.

West Chester returns home to the friendly confines of Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon when the Golden Rams host Edinboro. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
