EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Three different players scored for West Chester University as the third-ranked Golden Rams downed host East Stroudsburg on a rainy afternoon inside Whitenight Field Wednesday.
With the win, West Chester (13-3, 7-2 PSAC East) clinched a home game in the first round of the upcoming PSAC postseason tournament next week. The Golden Rams, who will finish second in the division behind No. 1 Bloomsburg, will play either Kutztown or C.W. Post on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Vonnie Gros Field. Game time for that first-round playoff match will be determined at a later date. The winners of the two quarterfinal round matches will advance to the conference semifinals on Friday, Oct. 28 at Shippensburg.
Devin Whalen gave East Stroudsburg a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the contest with an assist from Lauren Ventrella. That was how things stood until the 42nd minute when Alisha Moran tied things up with an unassisted effort. Nine minutes later, Leah Angstadt converted a penalty stroke to put the Rams in front, 2-1.
Kelsi Lykens widened the margin in the 56th minute, which proved to be the game-winner.
Ventrella scored in the final minute of play for the Warriors, but it was a little too little and a little too late.
West Chester held a 24-7 advantage in shots and an 11-2 advantage in penalty corner. Kristin Arnold made one save on the afternoon. That save came on final play of the game when she stopped a penalty corner by East Stroudsburg to secure the victory.
