West Chester Sweeps USciences, 3-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- West Chester recovered from a slow start in set one to come from behind and then complete the sweep over visiting University of the Sciences, 3-0, in a non-league women's volleyball match Thursday evening inside Hollinger Field House.

West Chester (16-10) found itself trailing 22-16 in the opening set, before staging a stinging comeback to eventually knot the set at 24-apiece with USciences (11-10). Senior setter Helen Fitzpatrick served up an ace to give the hosts set point, and following a timeout from the Devils, served up another ace to close out the set, 26-24. West Chester captured the next two sets 25-10, 25-15.

Freshman setter Mary Faust made sure that any momentum the Sciences may have gained as a result of a close first set was quickly squashed as she served up five consecutive aces and six out of seven points during a stretch early on that expanded the Golden Rams' lead from 5-2 to 12-2. The Devils never could recover.

West Chester served up 16 aces overall in the match, including Faust's six, and hit .309 for the match. Dana Markol notched four aces as well. After the opening set, the Golden Rams were never seriously challenged.

Lexi Kegerise led the Rams with 11 kills and hit .300. Fitzpatrick led the squad with 22 assists and three aces. Faust had 14 assists to go with her team-high six aces. Julie Boblits knocked down eight kills while Kelly Martin added seven.

Amanda DeAngelo led the Sciences with eight kills and 12 digs.

West Chester embarks on a pivotal road trip this weekend when it travels to Shippensburg Friday and Millersville Saturday for two crucial PSAC East matches.
