WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University scored four goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 victory over visiting Millersville in a PSAC women's soccer regular-season finale Sunday afternoon at sunny, but cool, John A. Farrell Stadium.
Paige Maloney and Cara Deola each registered a goal and an assist for West Chester (12-2-4, 8-2-4 PSAC). Niki Roberts scored the lone tally for Millersville (5-12-1, 3-10-1).
Melissa McKeary notched her team-leading seventh of the season in the ninth minute to get things started. Her goal from a sharp angle out by the edge of the box caught the upper far corner of the goal. Roberts tied things up three minutes later. However, West Chester scored three more times before the half and then added another in the second half to put the game away.
Jen Hutchinson gave the Golden Rams the lead for good with a blast from 18 yards that just snuck under the crossbar in the 16th minute. Maloney and Deola scored their first goals of the season before the half ended. They came five minutes apart with about 15 minutes left in the half.
Ashley Saylor scored her second goal of the year in the 50th minute after halftime.
Lauren Panfile, senior goalkeeper for West Chester, started the game and played the first 20 minutes. Shannon Fedyk (12-2-4) relieved her and made three saves without yielding a goal.
Millersville's Laura Reed started in goal and made three saves in the first half. Erica Roth played the second half and allowed just one goal while making three saves.
West Chester takes on Slippery Rock Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. in Slippery Rock in the first round of the PSAC Women's Soccer postseason tournament. The Golden Rams are the sixth seed in the tournament while The Rock are the third seed.
