WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Visiting Mercyhurst shot 42 percent from the field, including 42 percent from 3-point range to outdistance host West Chester, 90-71, Sunday afternoon in a PSAC men’s basketball crossover contest inside Hollinger Field House.
Mercyhurst (3-0, 2-0 PSAC) shot lights out all afternoon, adding a 14-for-14 effort from the foul line in the first half, that enabled the Lakers to open an 11-point lead by the break. Matt Lee (27 points) put up 19 points by intermission and was one of two Lakers to finish with over 20 points. Teammate Bill Weaver scored 21 points as well.
West Chester’s Jon Breeden posted a season-high 18 points, including 8-for-8 from the foul line, but it was not enough to keep up with Mercyhurst’s sharp shooters. Lost in the commotion was a double-double from Lance McDowell as well (11 points, 11 rebounds). Corey Blake, who put up 14 points off the bench in Saturday’s win over Slippery Rock, contributed another 13 off the bench Sunday.
The Golden Rams shot 44.1 percent from the field (26-for-59), but knocked down just 3 of 16 3-pointers in the contest.
West Chester travels to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt against the Griffins before breaking for Thanksgiving.
