PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Lance McDowell scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as West Chester topped host Chestnut Hill on the road, 72-67, Tuesday evening.
McDowell's 24 points are the most in a single game by a Golden Rams player so far this winter. The senior center went 9-for-14 from the field and 6 of 7 from the foul line. He also blocked two shots.
McDowell gave the Golden Rams the lead for good with just under five minutes to play on a layup that started the big man on his own personal 8-0 run to give West Chester (3-2) a 68-60 advantage. From there, the visitors kept control of the game and left Sorgenti Arena with the win.
Chestnut Hill (4-2) led by as many as eight in the first half as the Griffins held the lead for much of the first 20 minutes of play. However, West Chester chipped away in the second half, pulling even six times before taking the lead for good thanks to McDowell's run. The Rams shot 45.5 percent from the field for the game (25 of 55). Jon Breeden added 12 points and Jaleel Mack 11 in support of McDowell's 24.
Carl Johnson added nine points off the bench.
West Chester will be back in action after Thanksgiving with another non-league tilt at Holy Family Tuesday, Nov. 29.
