Lennon Leads Way In Win At Kutztown, 58-52

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– Alex Lennon scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and tied a school record with seven blocked shots as visiting West Chester University downed host Kutztown University, 58-52, at Keystone Arena in a PSAC East women’s basketball contest Wednesday evening.

West Chester (16-5, 7-2 PSAC East) finished off the season sweep over Kutztown (12-9, 5-4).

Lennon blocked seven shots in a game for the second time in her career, tying a school record she held with both Angela Haas and Gina Tophoney. Lennon nearly pulled off a double-double and was dangerously close to an unconventional triple double with her performance Wednesday.

The sophomore center rejected two consecutive shots  - the first a 3-pointer from Melissa McQuade – with 2:20 left in the game and the Golden Rams clinging to a two-point advantage (54-52).  West Chester hit four straight free throws down the stretch to close out the contest on a 6-0 run that clinched the win.

McQuade (17 points, 13 rebounds) tied the contest on a jumper with 2:42 left. It was just the second tie in the tilt. Kutztown never led in the game. However, the Bears did trim a 13-point deficit down to nothing in the second half.

Lennon notched 10 of her 12 in the first half as the Golden Rams ran out to a 32-20 advantage by the break. She kicked up her effort on the defensive end in the second half with five of her seven blocks coming in the final 20 minutes.

Serratelli hit a pair of free throws in the final two minutes and converted a layup in the waning seconds to finish with 12 points. Dominique Adams added nine points off the bench.

West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg on Saturday for a PSAC East dual with the Warriors. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
