Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The 23rd-ranked Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pick up a road win over West Chester University at chilly Serpico Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (5-7) wasted a stellar pitching performance from starter Dylan Porter (0-2) while Wilmington (13-1) continued its winning ways behind a nice effort from its starter Ryan Lally (1-1).
Porter threw six innings of one-hit, shutout ball before the Wildcats touched him for two runs in the seventh. Joe Harbach hit a triple over the head of West Chester’s center fielder to the base of the outfield wall that scored the first run of the game. He would later come around to score on a throwing error that put Wilmington on top, 2-0.
Porter allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine before exiting with one out in the seventh. Harbach’s triple was the only hard-hit ball off Porter all day.
In the eighth, Wilmington loaded the bases and two more runs crossed the plate before the Golden Rams got out of the jam.
Chris Pula, Matt Baer and Mike Raimo each recorded a pair of hits offensively for West Chester. However, the Rams never sent more than four batters to the plate in any one inning the whole afternoon. Reid Pulford and Raimo each singled in the fifth inning, marking the only frame in which West Chester registered more than one hit in the same inning.
Lally scattered six hits over six innings, striking out three without walking a batter for the Wildcats.
West Chester opens league play on Friday at Millersville with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
