WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Dylan Porter turned in another special mid-week performance and Joe Gunkel picked up a save as West Chester held off Chestnut Hill's late-inning rally for a 5-4 non-league baseball victory at Serpico Stadium.
West Chester (7-10) ended a two-game losing streak as the Golden Rams prepare for its PSAC four-game series on the weekend against Bloomsburg. Chestnut Hill falls to 5-11.
Porter (1-2) collected his first win of the season, tossing a two-hitter through seven innings and allowing just one earned run. He ran into trouble in the eighth as Chestnut Hill pushed across two more runs to cut the deficit to 5-3. Brent Roerhich got the Rams out of the eighth without any more damage,and Gunkel came on to pick up the save in the ninth.
Chris Pula went 2-for-4 with a triple and a pair of runs scored. Kyle Frazier contributed a pair of RBI as well.
West Chester's three pitchers allowed just three hits on the day.
The Golden Rams will be back in action again on Friday when they host Bloomsburg in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
