West Chester Baseball Splits Twinbill With Bloomsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Joe Wendle singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Reid Pulford with the winning run in the opener of a PSAC baseball doubleheader with Bloomsburg. However, the Huskies captured game two, 9-3, Saturday to earn the split of the twinbill.

West Chester (8-11, 2-4 PSAC East) will travel to Bloomsburg (9-9, 2-4) on Monday afternoon to complete the four-game series at Litwhiler Field.

Wendle finished the doubleheader 5-for-8 with four RBI, including the walk-off game-winner in the opener. Brandon Wolfe went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI in the first game. Pulford was 2-for-4 with a RBI in addition to scoring the game-winning run on Wendle’s hit.

Matt Zielinski started and pitched the first six innings for West Chester. He allowed four runs, only two of them earned, on eight hits. He walked four and struck out seven. Brent Roehrich (2-0) came on in the seventh and retired the side in order to earn the win for the Golden Rams.

Jordan Lehman (1-3) started the nightcap, but lasted just two innings. Bloomsburg put up three-spots in the first and second frames to take a 6-0 lead early. West Chester battled back with a pair of runs in the third and one more in the fourth to cut the deficit in half. However, the Huskies scored three more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Dylan Zigman went 1-for-3 with a RBI in the second game.
