EDINBORO, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis squad swept the doubles competition and took all six singles matches in relative ease to down host Edinboro in a PSAC crossover match Sunday morning.
West Chester (7-7) split its two weekend matches during the crossover, falling to Mercyhurst on Saturday night by a 7-2 margin.
The Golden Rams did not lose more than one game in any set, sweeping the singles in straight sets. Brittany Counts, Claire Afrassiabian, Alex Santoro and Kara Shumock were each 6-0, 6-0 winners at first, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Luisi Souto was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at second singles and Ali Fetter a 6-1, 6-1 winner at third singles.
Counts and Souto teamed up at first doubles for an 8-0 shutout while Nicole Paller and Shumock blanked their opponents, 8-0, as well. Fetter and Tara Krauss were 8-1 winners at second doubles.
West Chester jumps into PSAC East play this week when the Golden Rams host East Stroudsburg on South Campus at 2 p.m.
