Women’s Tennis Turns Back East Stroudsburg, 7-2

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. –  A sweep in the doubles competition, coupled with a win at third singles, led host West Chester University’s women’s tennis squad to a 7-2 victory over visiting East Stroudsburg on a sunny, but brisk Tuesday afternoon at South Campus Courts.

West Chester (8-7, 1-0 PSAC East) picked up what could turn out to be a very decisive win as the Golden Rams contend for their second postseason bid in as many years.

The Rams opened the match in impressive fashion with a sweep in the doubles competition. Brittany Counts and Luisi Souto teamed up to down their counterparts at first doubles, 8-4. Ali Fetter and Tara Krauss were 9-7 winners at second doubles, while Kara Shumock and Nicole Paller were 8-3 victors at third doubles.

Much like the men’s match, East Stroudsburg captured the first two singles spots to momentarily crawl back into the match. However. Fetter picked up a huge win at third singles over Jamie Ferrigno, 6-2, 7-5. Then Claire Afrassiabian clinched the win with an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.

Alex Santoro and Kara Shumock finished off the match strong for the Golden Rams with wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

West Chester’s women return to the courts on Saturday for their second PSAC match of the spring at Bloomsburg.
