AUBURNDALE, Pa. – No. 12 West Chester swept a doubleheader from SW Minnesota State Sunday morning, delivering head coach Mark Jackson his 700th career win, at the 3rd Annual Russmatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Fla.
West Chester (3-0) remained perfect on the season with a 7-4 victory in the opener and a 13-9 decision in the second game. Jackson’s overall collegiate coaching record now stands at 700-294-7 in 22 years as a head coach.
“The players told me about it after the game,” Jackson revealed. “I hadn’t really paid too much attention to it.
“I am really fortunate to have coached some great players on some great teams. I’m just happy to be a small part of it. This is really a tribute to the players and teams that I have coached. They are the ones that won 700 games.”
Joe Gunkel (1-0) picked up the win in game one, going four innings and striking out five while yielding three earned runs. Brent Roehrich (1-0) got the win in the second game, throwing 2 1/3 innings and giving up just one hit while walking four and striking out two. He allowed two earned runs.
Chris Pula banged out five hits and five RBI in the doubleheader. Justin Lamborn knocked in four runs in the two games as well. Joe Wendle produced a game-high three RBI in the second game.
Brandon Wolfe and Kristian von Kiel each knocked in a pair of runs in the second game for the Golden Rams.
West Chester takes on PSAC West rival Slippery Rock Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Russmatt Invitational.
