WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - West Chester dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Grand Valley State Tuesday evening, falling in 10 innings in the first game, 3-2, and losing the second game, 8-1.
West Chester (3-3) dropped its second straight extra-inning affair and third straight overall. Grand Valley State (9-2) won its third straight.
The Lakers loaded the bases with one out in the 10th inning, before the game-winning run was forced home on a walk.
West Chester took a 2-0 lead early in the game when Matt Baer hit a two-run double that chased home Joe Wendle and Kristian von Kiel, who had both singled.
Grand Valley State hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
In the nightcap, the Lakers scored five runs in the first inning and quickly jumped out on top, 8-0. Jack Provine recorded the first West Chester hit in the fourth with a double. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent Roehrich.
West Chester takes on Minnesota Mankato tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
