BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s tennis squad heads to Bloomsburg University Thursday morning for the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) postseason tournament.
The Golden Rams will take on 13th-ranked California (Pa.) in one semifinal with host Bloomsburg taking on Indiana (Pa.) in the other semifinal. The two semifinal winners will meet on Friday for the conference title and an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Tournament. The other two schools will meet in a consolation match to determine a third-place recipient.
The Rams fell to the nationally ranked Vulcans in the fall, 9-0, in the most recent meeting between the two schools. Cal enters the semifinals as the four-time defending champions. West Chester has won the PSAC women’s title just once in its history. That was in 1982 when the champion was determined on a point system based on how far your individual entrants advanced. The current team head-to-head format has been in existence since 2004.
