BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 13 California (Pa.) in the semifinals of the 2011 PSAC Women’s Tennis Tournament Thursday on the campus of Bloomsburg University.
West Chester (15-9) saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end and will play Indiana, (Pa.) in the consolation match of the conference final four on Friday morning.
The Golden Rams dropped all three doubles matches by identical scores of 8-2. The Vulcans then picked up wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to clinch the match and suspend play in the other singles matches.
“I think our girls played very well today,” WCU head coach Tina Tharp commented. “Cal is obviously a very tough team. We came out strong and picked up more wins (in sets) than we did last time we played (Cal).”
Bloomsburg defeated Indiana (Pa.), X-X, in the other semifinal to advance to the championship game tomorrow. IUP will take on West Chester at 9 a.m. in the consolation match, weather permitting.
