WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University split its PSAC East baseball doubleheader with rival Kutztown University on a sunny and hot Monday afternoon at Serpico Stadium. Kutztown won the first game, 10-7, while West Chester took the second game, 5-2.
West Chester (19-20, 9-13 PSAC East) has one league doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Mansfield as the Golden Rams make their final push for the postseason.
Dylan Zigman and Jack Provine each hit two-run singles during a five-run fifth that produced all the runs West Chester would need in the nightcap. Justin Lamborn also hit a sacrifice fly in the frame.
Anthony Clemens (4-2) started game two on Senior Day and picked up the win, tossing 5 1/3 innings of six-hit ball and allowing two runs. Dylan Porter (3) came on to finish up and record the save.
Reid Pulford went 2-for-3 with a double in the nightcap. Matt Baer, Joe Wendle and Mike Raimo each had hits as well.
In the opener, West Chester erased a four-run deficit with a six-run third. Josh Heyne provided the big bat with a two-run double while Brandon Wolfe, Chris Pula, Pulford and Baer each produced run-scoring singles.
Unfortunately for the hosts, Kutztown scored three unearned runs in the fourth to re-take the lead, 7-6, and never looked back.
Jordan Lehman (3-5) suffered the loss, throwing two innings in relief and allowing the unearned runs in the fourth. Senior lefty Matt Zielinski started and lasted three innings, yielding four runs on four hits. Brent Roehrich pitched two innings of relief after Lehman and allowed three runs, two of them earned, on two hits.
West Chester travels to Mansfield on Tuesday in dire need of a sweep, along with some help from others in the conference, to earn one of the four playoff spots from the Eastern Division.
