WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester shut out Kutztown, 9-0, in a PSAC East women’s tennis match at South Campus’ tennis courts Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (11-8, 3-1 PSAC East) moved into second place behind traditional division power Bloomsburg with the win over Kutztown (3-10, 2-3). The Golden Rams were aided by forfeit wins at third doubles and sixth singles against the Golden Bears.
West Chester scored straight-set wins in the singles competition, sweeping Nos. 2-5 6-0, 6-0 each time. Only Brittany Counts at first singles, was challenged, losing 6-3, 6-4. Luisi Souto, Ali Fetter, Claire Afrassiabian and Alex Santoro were the winners at two thru five, respectively. Shumock was credited with the forfeit win at six.
Counts and Souto teamed up at first doubles for a win while Fetter and Tara Krauss were winners at second doubles.
West Chester will look to sew up second place in the conference standings, which would in turn earn it a home match in the first round of the PSAC playoffs when the Rams take on Millersville in a match that was postponed on Friday. Only the Marauders and Cheyney remain on the Rams’ league slate.
