Men’s Basketball Welcomes First-Place Bloomsburg On Saturday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s men’s basketball squad welcomes Bloomsburg University to Hollinger Field House on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Bloomsburg (13-3, 9-2) enters the contest in first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division standings. West Chester (7-8, 4-7) sits in fourth place in the East, holding onto the final playoff spot for the moment.

The game can be heard live on Brandywine Radio (www.brandywineradio.com). L.J. Harrell will handle all the play-by-play while Doug Brice provides color analysis.

Bloomsburg is riding a four-game winning streak that has the Huskies sitting alone atop the Eastern Division standings. West Chester defeated Shippensburg on Wednesday and, thanks to an East Stroudsburg win over Millersville coupled with Bloom’s victory over Mansfield, now sits alone in fourth place in the East.

The Golden Rams are hopeful that the possible return of junior point guard Jon Breeden will spark West Chester as it completes its first turn around the division. Freshman forward Corey Blake has taken the league by storm since his breakout 25-point performance on Dec. 4. Blake is averaging better than 14 points per game and seven rebounds per contest over West Chester’s last nine games.

The Huskies’ Dontahe Jordan leads the squad in scoring with a 16.5 point per game average while Trevon Johnson leads the PSAC in assists. Bloomsburg is very good at getting everybody on the floor involved in the offense. Nnmadi Njoku leads the loop in 3-point shooting percentage as well. Bloomsburg has been successful by being able to do a little of everything. They spread the floor and can dump the ball in low, or kill you from the outside.

The PSAC Eastern Division is wide open on the men’s side. Quite a bit of parity exists among the eight teams with a lot of basketball still to be played. West Chester is hoping to parlay some of that momentum from Wednesday’s win over Shippensburg into an upset of first-place Bloomsburg.
