Golden Rams Quiet Division-Leading Bloomsburg, 70-64

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Carl Johnson scored a career-high 20 points, and Jaleel Mack added 17, as host West Chester tripped up division-leading Bloomsburg, 70-64, in a PSAC men’s basketball showdown inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (8-8, 5-7 PSAC) picked up its second straight conference win with the upset and solidified its hold on fourth place in the league standings. Bloomsburg (13-4, 9-3) remains atop the Eastern Division, but saw its four-game win streak on the year snapped.

Johnson’s 20 points marked the fourth straight game in which he has been in double figures. He is averaging 16.5 points per game over that span. He knocked down seven of his nine shots from the field and five of six from the foul line Saturday.

Harley Williamson hit a layup with 22 seconds left in the first half, giving the Golden Rams the lead for good, and then Jon Breeden drained a 3-pointer from 40 feet out at the halftime buzzer that increased the hosts’ margin to five (35-30) and gave West Chester all the momentum it would need.

Breeden, who missed the last three games with an injury, finished with 15 points and five rebounds. The Rams’ secured the “W” despite playing without senior center Lance McDowell, who injured his foot in practice during the week. Freshman Eric Frans made his first college start in McDowell’s place.

Khalif Foster scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for West Chester.

West Chester travels to cross-town rival Cheyney on Wednesday evening, and then heads to East Stroudsburg one week from today for a battle with the third-place Warriors.
